HISTOY OF ROYAL SCHOOL TEMA

TEMA ROYAL SCHOOL, was founded by the proprietress – Mama Adokuwa-Asigble IV on 4th July 1997.

Mama’s vision to establish a school emerged as a solution to hardship she faced at Datus.

The nursery unit started at her residential house Number T.2 Community Seven with the able support of her husband- Mr. H K Anochie and her mother Madam Janet Ame Dugbazah.

The number of role was three(3) and grew into what we see now. It was only a nursery unit, few months after operating th school,a sorrowful event occurred. The dear mother of the proprietress suddenly died! Though the lss was great, Mama Adokuwa mustered up courage from her zeal to succeed. Following that, in 1978, she erected a wooden structure with the supervision of her husband, on an acquired plot to accommodate nursery, preparatory and further classes. It will interest you to know the school crest was designed by Mr.Anochie, her husband through inspiration from Isaiah 31:5 which says :  “just as a bird hovers over iys nest to protect its young, so shall I the Lord protect Jerusalem and Defend it.

Hence the motto of the school:-Royals in Christ Jesus.

The original school uniform was light green shade over a deep green material was the selection of the Proprietress. Next, the compound tress were brought from Tefle by Mama and were planted by her husband. Tema Royal Preparatory School has been both registered Ghana Education Service and Ghana National Association of Private Schools as Grade A.

Presently in 1987, the school developed to class with over 500pupils on roll.

The brinks-block was built between 1988and 1992 during the time JSS 1 to 3 were instituted.

Some years of operation later brought the workshop, Computer and Library block.

It must be explained that Mama Adokuwa’s initiative and resourcefulness in developing Tema Royal had been solely through self – financing. And up to date, Royal school Royal School has an enviable record in common entrance, Middle School Leaving Certificate and Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Through Mama’s foresightedness, some African – American academicians in the Diaspora U.S.A have heard of the reputation of Tema Royal School and are desirous to assist the school in so many ways. Following this, we had Mrs. Jane Del Rosso–Freach, a professional teacher who came to teach in our school for some time and Mrs. Martha Carson-Gentry who came and donated a number of computers to the school in the year 2004.

Today, we are seeing a giant librarybuilt through the help of two friends of this school, Dr. Bernice Henry, a Professor of the university of Philadelphia Public School System in the U.S.A and Dr. Mrs. Vivian Lee, a Board Member of the University of Washington DC. USA.

The Proprietress alike, the School jointly welcomes them gratefully.

Keys to Success

What Makes Us Unique

Schools in Ghana are dedicated to providing education without any significant focus on enhancing knowledge of pupils in Ghanaian culture and history. Ghanaian traditional values deduced from history is an excellent source of learning from which our pupils can benefit. On the contrary, the fundamental focus of Ghanaian education does not illuminate education in this area. There is mention of this in subjects such as Religious and moral education and social studies; however, we believe that a more in-depth focus will be on this form of education as it is essential for our pupils to grow up fully knowing their history and making use of the enormous lessons that are there to be learnt.
Furthermore, employment in Ghana is a significant problem the government over the years have grappled with. There is no real solution proffered to arrest this malaise. The best way out of it as deduced by economists and researchers is entrepreneurship. This is most effective when entrepreneurial training is provided to individuals very early in life, so they grow up knowing that is the way to make a living. As a result, we have streamlined our education to ensure that our pupils are exposed to entrepreneurship very early in their lives. We have intentionally crafted programmes to aid this as well as brought resource persons to train our staff in the delivery of this curriculum. All the needed resources to ensure this focus succeeds are provided and becomes a signature of Tema Royal.

Parents Teachers Association

The Parents Teacher Association deliberates on policies and programmes towards the welfare of the pupils and staff. The association is headed by an executive council, which is voted for a 2-Year term. This consists of a chairperson, a treasurer and a financial secretary. The aforementioned positions are occupied by parents/guardians as stipulated in the PTA constitution. The other members of the executive are the assistant chairman; held by the headmaster and the secretary; occupied by a teacher, all in line with the PTA constitution. The Association has grown inactive in recent years, with low financial contributions/dues and low turn-out at meetings. Out-turns at meeting average 30% of parents/guardians.
The school believes that the PTA is highly vital towards meeting its objectives. A social media account is set to address the participation of parents/guardians. This has improve the participation of the members through ideas generation, critique and even financial contributions.
